Open Vall Fosca passes the test to hold the World Cup

The International Mountain Ski Federation (ISMF) makes a favourable report to the OPEN VALL FOSCA to host the World Cup.

The 12th International ski mountaineering competition Open Vall Fosca has passed the exam by the International Mountain Ski Federation (ISMF), although it was suspended due to the extreme weather conditions.

The report done by an international judge was very favourable in order to hold the World Cup in the Open Vall Fosca in the near future.

“We are pleased that, after the frustration of not being able to celebrate the event, at least we have the consolation prize. The approval is not official yet, but the judge who made a report more than favourable to pass the selection” said the director of the competition, Miquel Arilla.

The organization, that had delayed the competition to Sunday due to the bad weather forecasts, finally decided to suspend it because “the safety of the participants” could not be guaranteed. “We ran the risk of losing the life of some runner, because at various points of the route it would be impossible to rescue an injured. With the wind, the wind chill factor was 30 degrees below zero and the helicopter could not take off. Participants appreciated the decision,” said Arilla.

La Pobla de Segur Ski Club (CEPS) and Torre de Capdella town council, organizers of the event, must now decide whether the next edition will take place next year or, according to its biennial basis, 2015, when it could already apply for the World Cup of Ski Mountaineering.
