Walking Festival

From 15th to 18th July
A festival that allows you to discover the valley and its people

Come and discover new spots of Vall Fosca (“Dark Valley”) accompanied by local mountain guides and natives who will help you to know and interpret the place and give you the opportunity to live a very original experience.

In this year’s edition of the Festival, all the guides, organizers and participants will keep on being utterly responsible and respectful. Together, we will make it as easy as possible to follow all the security rules in order to avoid coronavirus infections.

Suitable clothes (according to the weather), middle mountain boots or mountain trainers, small rucksack and water are required for all the hikes.

THURSDAY, 15th JULY

5.30 p.m. Dinner under the stars and night hike

Ascent by Vall Fosca cable car to the entrance of Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici Natural Park in Estany Gento, sunset trek, picnic dinner with local products at Estany Gento, stargazing and guided descent through Pigolo path.

8.30 a.m One day with Keller

In the frame of the celebration of his 140th anniversary, the Swiss engineer Albert Keller comes back to Vall Fosca to guide us through his territory: Estany Gento, Colomina and Capdella Power Station. Ascent by Vall Fosca cable car and visit of the area of Estany Gento and Colomina. In the afternoon, visit of the Capdella Hydroelectric Museum. All day accompanied by Albert Keller himself!

8.30 a.m. Let’s learn about orienteering

Ascent by Vall Fosca cable car at 9.00 a.m. to the entrance of Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici Natural Park in Estany Gento. After starting our adventure towards Colomina Hut, our map and compass will guide us through the high lakes of Vall Fosca. Depending on the weather and on the group, we will follow a circular route: Estany Gento – Estany Colomina – Estany Xic de Colomina – Estany Vidal – Estany Tort – Estany Gento. We will learn about how to use of the basic orienteering tools (map, compass and altimeter), how to locate our position on the map when we don’t know where we are, and how to trace our way on the map and follow it. Descent will be at about 3.30 p.m.

6.00 p.m El Coll d’Oli, remains of an old volcano

Departure from the village of Aguiró, ascent through the path that leads to Coll d’Oli pass, along the chapel of the Virgin of the Pass, and discovery of the remains of an ancient volcanic area that existed before the formation of the Pyrenees.

8.45 a.m. Filià Valley, a glacial valley

Departure from the village of Capdella up to the Shepherd’s Hut (La Cabana del Pastor) and Filià Lake, where you will find out how Filià Valley was formed and see rocks which date from more than 500 millions years and are now located in the highest parts of the Pyrenees after a long trip through the whole Planet.

Albert Sangenís will tell you and show you how the people who moved around the mountain used to dress.

SUNDAY, 18TH JULY

Morning

9.00 a.m. Hike, ceramics and typical Pallars aperitif

Hike from Estavill to Antist, where you will stop at La Santolina (ceramic craft project) and take part in a workshop on ceramics with a local craftswoman. Typical Pallars aperitif and hike down back to Estavill.

After a short introduction of the main modelling techniques, you will chose one and make a first outline of your piece.

Once your design is ready, you will prepare the clay and slips in order to make some plates you can use for a typical Pallars aperitif.

Ascent by Vall Fosca cable car and short hike along part of the Carrilet green railway to interpret Vall Fosca landscapes on the basis of the stock activity, from the Iberians to now. Descent by cable car (1.00 p.m.).

DURING ALL THE FESTIVAL

Exhibition “The mountain fishermen”

This exhibition offered at Capdella Hydroelectric Museum is a trip to the story of fishing and through the different fishing systems used during centuries for food and subsistence in that hostile territory.

Opening hours of the Museum: from Tuesday to Saturday, from 11 am to 2 pm and from 5 to 8 pm. Sunday from 11 to 2 pm.
